Petroleum Engineering is an engineering discipline concerned with the activities related to the production of hydrocarbons, which can be either crude oil, or natural gas. Exploration, production, refinement, and distribution to a market are the industries related to this highly technical engineering profession.
Petroleum Engineering requires a good knowledge of many other related disciplines, such as geophysics, petroleum geology, formation evaluation (well logging), drilling, economics, reservoir simulation, well engineering, artificial lift systems, and oil and gas facilities engineering.
Petroleum engineering education is available at very few universities in Egypt outside Future University.
The main qualities that are needed to study “the program”
-
Strong Analytical Skills: The ability to analyze complex data and engineering problems is crucial in petroleum engineering.
-
Math and Science Proficiency: A solid foundation in mathematics, physics, and chemistry is essential for understanding core engineering concepts.
-
Problem-Solving Aptitude: Petroleum engineers often face challenging problems, so a knack for creative problem-solving is invaluable.
-
Attention to Detail: Precision is critical in designing and executing drilling and extraction processes.
-
Adaptability: The petroleum industry is dynamic, and the ability to adapt to evolving technologies and market conditions is vital.
-
Communication Skills: Effective communication is essential for collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and presenting findings to stakeholders.
-
Ethical Awareness: Understanding the ethical and environmental responsibilities of petroleum engineering is increasingly important in today's world.
-
Resilience: The industry can be demanding, so resilience and the ability to handle high-pressure situations are beneficial.
-
Curiosity: A natural curiosity about energy resources and a desire to innovate can drive success in this field.
-
Teamwork: Collaborative skills are crucial as petroleum engineers often work in teams on complex projects.
These qualities, combined with a strong educational foundation, will contribute to your success in a petroleum engineering program and ultimately in your career in the petroleum industry.
The Educational Philosophy
Future University offers world-class petroleum engineering education, research, and services. Petroleum engineers are involved in all facets of the Oil and Gas industry including exploration, development, drilling, and production. The Undergraduate Petroleum Engineering program at FUE follows the general pattern and philosophy of petroleum engineering education in the United States, primarily preparing graduates for a professional career in the oil and gas industry.
Overview of the Program
Future University petroleum engineering graduates are taught by leading researchers and industry professionals with 35+ years of experience. The program curricula emphasize connecting the dots between the classroom lessons and the real industry applications. It’s our utmost goal is to provide the undergraduates with the required hands-on knowledge and experience to qualify them to actively join the industrial domain inside and outside Egypt. For the continuous improvement process, the curriculum has recently elaborated to include new courses to coop with the United Nations (UN) sustainable development goals (SDG) to support the Petroleum industry's direction in the climate change challenges. The Petroleum Engineering Department is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Missouri University S&T. The Missouri University S&T is providing the program with a faculty and student exchange program, such a program allows the undergraduate students to gain the experience of studying abroad, develop their intellectual skills, and build their overseas network.
Added value for studying “the program” in terms of skills.
-
Technical Expertise: Proficiency in drilling, reservoir engineering, and production techniques.
-
Problem-Solving: Ability to analyze complex challenges in the oil and gas industry.
-
Data Analysis: Skills in data interpretation and modeling for efficient resource extraction.
-
Project Management: Experience in managing large-scale energy projects.
-
Environmental Awareness: Understanding of sustainable practices and environmental regulations in industry.
-
Adaptability: Capacity to work in dynamic and global energy markets.
-
Teamwork: Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in the field.
These skills are highly sought-after in the petroleum industry and can open doors to various career opportunities.
Career opportunities (what awaits the student after graduation?)
In order for our graduates to enter the industry as productive contributors with the opportunity to work in all Oil and Gas activities for operators, and Service provider companies worldwide. The department has signed several collaboration protocols with national and international companies and institutes (e.g.: Egyptian Petroleum Research Institute “EPRI”, Streamlines Oil & Gas, Tatweer Petroleum Services, and SLB ” ex: Schlumberger”).
As a result of such collaborations and protocols, many opportunities for our students are provided to obtain internship experience, and practical and field training before they graduate, and many full-time job opportunities have been granted to our graduates.
Students' training and research
Students are required to join an internship in one of the potential Exploration and Production (E&P) companies as an Industrial training course during the summer of the Third and Fourth year. The Industrial training course exposes students to a professional work environment. Consequently, students are kept current and updated on technological developments and professional standards primarily in late-levelcoursework. Students are also encouraged to attend and participate in research papers at national and international conferences and meetings that are held locally or abroad with full coverage and support of the FUE.
