About Structural Engineering and Construction Management

About Structural Engineering and Construction Management
Structural Engineering and Construction Management is that part of engineering that covers the planning, design detail, and management of all initiatives that have influence on the lives of human beings, such as water tanks, roads, bridges, irrigation structures, residential buildings, etc. It is responsible for the successful design and construction of various types of buildings all over the world such as the Giza Pyramids, Burj Khalifa, and Sydney Opera House..etc.

The graduating engineers are most commonly involved in the design of buildings and large non-building structures, but they can also be involved in the design of machinery, medical equipment, vehicles or other structures to ensure their structural integrity. Structural engineering theory is based upon physical laws and an empirical knowledge of the structural performance in different types of landscapes with different materials. Designs can use a relatively small number of basic structural elements to build up structural systems that can be very complex.

This program combines structural engineering with advanced construction management to educate students and enable them to apply their earned skills and solve problems of the modern engineering and construction world. The department prepares students with a solid foundation in design and management so they can serve multiple disciplines. Through a combination of technical and non-technical courses, the students are able to work in groups, lead groups, and create implementation plans. The graduates are able to work on construction projects as designers, site engineers, and planners. They can work on building construction, heavy civil work, or infrastructure projects.

What can our engineers do?

  • Design buildings, roadways, water tanks, wastewater treatment plants.
  • Conduct structural analysis on projects.
  • Work as site engineers, quantity surveyors, planning engineers, or quality (control/assurance) engineers.
  • Plan maintenance and rehabilitation of projects.
  • Provide consultations on construction projects.
  • Work on large-scale projects.

Where can our graduates work?

  • Design firms
  • Consulting firms
  • Construction companies

The Main Qualities That Are Needed To Study “the Program”

  • Apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering concepts to the solution of engineering problems.
  • Design and conduct experiments as well as analyze and interpret data.
  • Identify, formulate, and solve fundamental structural engineering and construction management problems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary engineering issues.
  • Act professionally in design and supervision of structural engineering disciplines.
  • Use the codes of practice of all structural engineering disciplines effectively and professionally.
  • Design, construct and protect all types of excavations and foundation systems for different purposes.
  • Manage construction sites.
  • Select appropriate building materials from the perspective of strength, durability, suitability of use to location, temperature, weather conditions and impacts of seawater and environment.
  • Select and design irrigation and water networks, sewerage systems and pumping stations.
  • Define and preserve properties (lands, real estates) of individuals, communities, and institutions, through different surveying and GIS tools.
  • Lead and supervise a group of designers and site or lab technicians.
  • Apply analytical, experimental, design, construction engineering and management techniques with proficiency aided by modern tools.
  • Understand global, ethical, and social implications of the profession in regard to public saengineeringy, environmental and sustainability issues.
  • Acquire and utilize personal, communication, and leadership skills and be able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Pursue distinguished employment as well as lifelong learning.

The Educational Philosophy

Structural Engineering and Construction Management department is keen to educate students to be qualified for the construction industry either technically or practically according to the industry’s needs. These is carried out based on up-to-date curriculums and high staff quality as well as providing training through dependable partners from the industry.
